Life Alert’s dispatcher stayed on the line with me to make sure I got help fast.

Life Alert
I went to bed one evening about nine o’clock. It got very hot in my bedroom. I went to check my thermostat and found it was up to 99 degrees at midnight. I thought I would pass out. Not knowing what to do, I called Life Alert and was helped within a very short time. The girl on my call told me to stay on the line with her and she would take care of me. Within a very short time, 3 firemen were at my door to help. They called the furnace company’s emergency number. The owner of the company called me and said he would be right over. He came at midnight and worked on the problem for more than an hour and solved the problem (a faulty thermostat – he installed new wiring along with a new thermostat which was a year old. Thanks to Life Alert, everything was taken care of. I was so thankful for the wonderful help given to one by Life Alert and everyone else. L.S., Newport, OR

My reclining chair trapped me, only Life Alert could help me late at night!

Life Alert
I was trapped in my recliner chair and unable to get free from it. My body was in reclining position, and my back was up against the back of the chair. I struggled and could not get off or out of the chair. I tried to put my legs and feet over the side but could not raise my body up and over! It was very late at night and I knew by AM I would be dead without help. My phone was not with me and it was very frightening. I live alone but my daughter lives close, so I finally realized I had my Life Alert… As a result, it became very necessary to have Life Alert around my neck!! It saved my Life to have my Life Alert on my body. S.C., Santa Barbara, CA

Thank God for my Life Alert. It could easily save your life.

Life Alert
I had spent a week in the hospital, then three weeks in a nursing home for rehab due to some serious physical health problems. I was very weak, I’m 78 and live alone. The evening I came home from the nursing home, I was heading to bed (with the use of my walker) when I passed out and fell with my walker on top of me. I couldn’t reach a phone. It was 10 pm at night. I pushed my Life Alert, which I have never taken off since I got it. The person on duty answered, got my info and called 911 and sent someone out to help me get up. I was not badly hurt. I just say “Thank God for my Life Alert. It could easily save your life.” Z.H., Waynesville, NC

True story

Hello,

Thank you for your review of Life Alert! Our commercials show real situations that have happened to our subscribers. We tend to err on the side of caution when describing these situations, so we opt for universal accidents, i.e. falling down stairs. The incident you shared is informative and we are very happy to hear that we were able to provide help to her. Your feedback as well as the story you shared has been sent to our marketing team.

I used to take care of a lady few years back and she has passed away her name was judy m, I clean for a living for 20 years . I just want to ahare her story one day Ms Judy from whote bear lake Mn had bit too much scotch and was looking in her fridge from her wheel chair and she forgot to lock her wheelchair it !

she fell head first in fridge n layed slept there untill lifealert sent rescue,so i dont really enjoy ur commercials so biased always a woman falling down stairs ect why cant u make them a bit more well entertaining .

Im sure u have stories like this one help i fell in my fridge and i cant get out ive been meaning to share for years to you guys n ur service its very helpful for many folks out there! thank u for ur services n all my accidentally presses n answers when dusting

Life Alert helped me outside even when they couldn’t hear me.

During hummingbird season, I went out in the yard to refill and replace some of the feeders, without my [Life Alert] GPS button. On the way back to my house, I dropped a feeder and stooped over to pick it up, and lost my balance and fell forward and bumped my forehead on the sidewalk! I couldn’t get up! I called for help but no one came to help me. So I started smashing the button that I wear around my neck. Soon the police arrived at my house, helped me up, and checked me out good, no injuries were found so they all left. I am 97 years old but am still able to remember to wear my GPS button when going outside, conclusion “lesson learned”. E.P., Mount Ida, AR

Life Alert saved me from heart attack!

I was in dire need of your services and did not know it…. [Life Alert] saved my life. I was due for a heart attack. The ER did not allow me to go back home. I would get a heart attack on the way home or at home. They did an angiogram and could see that my heart did not get enough blood or oxygen because of a kinked artery that fed the heart. Open heart surgery was scheduled 3 days later with one bypass. Thanks! It saved my life! W.L., Eugene, OR

If I had not had Life Alert, I may have bled out.

I have seen the Life Alert commercial “Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” many times on television and even poked fun at it when I exercises on the floor. At almost 80 years of age, I have to practice getting onto the floor and back up to keep my muscles strong. I am not laughing anymore. I fell backwards from the second story landing and felt each step as I slid down to the first floor where my head hit the tile landing and hot red blood poured through my head laceration. As I struggled to realize just how injured I was, I heard a familiar sound from my Life Alert monitor. It had detected my fall and was sending help. I must have passed out as I have no memory of the ambulance arrival and the trip to the regional trauma center. I do not recall being in the emergency room nor undergoing a dozen staples to close the laceration. I awoke in a hospital room with a helmet, to be told that I had suffered a “traumatic brain injury, a series of broken bones and hematomas”. My immediate concern was that I could not talk, see well, or hear well. It frightened me to desperation not to be able to talk, as I seemed to have lost the ability to know the words I wanted to say. Even after a couple of weeks, I could not read nor understand how to pronounce familiar words. I struggled to relearn what was once the easiest thing for me to do… use my voice. Since I once had been an English learner at the age of seven, I resorted to using word association to learn a “new language” as I had then as a child. When I could not remember a word, I used the web to seek synonyms. There I found a familiar way to rebuild my memory. I used lists to jot down points I needed the doctors to answer, as I also had trouble keeping more than one thought or questions on my mind. Within a month, I knew that I was recovering, although others thought I had all my facilities back, I knew better. It took over thirty-five days for my sight and hearing to be what they had been before the fall. I developed congestive heart failure as a consequence of receiving poor management of my medication in the assisted living center. I escaped the center by making an appointment with my doctor’s physician assistant, who promptly put me in the hospital, which subsequently discharged me to my home. Now at home, I have a chair lift. I continue with my physical exercises at home. I am fiercely determined to stay independent as long as possible. In total, I spent 42 days in three hospitals and assisted living. I am grateful to Life Alert for detecting the fall and sending help in time to stop the bleeding and getting me medical attention. If I had not had Life Alert, I may have bled out. E.M., Cerritos, CA

The advantages to calling Life Alert versus 911 are many.

My mom was feeling very faint and dizzy. She hit the [Life Alert] button while I hurried the 15 minutes it takes me to drive to her house. When I arrived, the first responders were already there. Thankfully, it was determined she was dehydrated and the treatment recommended was fast acting and she was fine in no time! The advantages to calling Life Alert versus 911 are many. Foremost, they have her medical info and can impart to the medics anything of immediate importance. But for my mom, the most important advantage is that they stay on the phone with her until help arrives. This is very reassuring for a 92-year-old woman who lives at home alone! Thank you Life Alert for a great service. J.J., Olympia, WA

Question regarding billing for ambulance service

Life Alert was so fast. And the lord was on my side

I took a hard fall and landed on the tile floor. The moment I hit the floor, someone was talking to me. I told Life Alert to call my son first, so that EMT’s would not tear down my front door. They arrived together. As I lay on the floor, I could see blood pooling around my head. By the time help arrived, the pool of blood had expanded to a large place. The EMT’s decided that the blood loss qualified as a trauma, so I was taken to the trauma center by helicopter. I was surprised that Life Alert was so fast. This was the first time I needed them. The lord was on my side. J.R., Yulee, FL

Life Alert helped me when I took a tumble in my yard.

Thank you for your services. The yard around my house is not level. In the afternoon, around 4 pm, I was working in my yard when I lost my footing and tumbled down. My head hit a log and a bush punctured my left forearm. Blood spurted from my arm and my head started bleeding. I pressed my Life Alert button on a cord that I wear around my neck. The school bus driver from the [nearby elementary school] was passing and saw my distress. She stopped the bus and tried to stop the bleeding with a roll of paper towels. My Life Alert had notified your system, who in turn notified my daughter. Two police officers came. The EMTs brought an ambulance. It was decided that I needed to go to the ER. One of the EMTs lifted me out of the bush pile. I could walk so my daughter insisted that she take me to the ER. ER personnel checked over my situation. They X-Rayed me all over, did a CAT scan of my head. No broken bones. My hypertension was running high. The hospital was full. About four hours later, the doctor’s approved my leaving to go to one of my daughter’s homes, where I spent the night. I seem fine now, but I avoid that side of the yard. Thank you [Life Alert] for being there when I needed you. G.H., Knoxville, TN

Life Alert gives me peace of mind about my 90-year-old uncle when I’m at work.

My husband was home, I was not. Life Alert got a hold of my husband first. Our 90-year-old uncle was in the shower and fell with the door locked. My husband got to him and Life Alert sent help to the house. And they then called me as well to let me know what happened and called me back to tell me what happened once help came. I love Life Alert. That is why I got it when we moved him in with us. I got it for my mom years ago. When I was at work, it gave me peace knowing if she needed help she could get it. I had it until she passed. I would recommend Life Alert to anyone always! L.R., Granite, OK

Home invasion did NOT occur because the individual could hear Life Alert communications

Life Alert has saved my life 3 different times; the most current occasion was on Saturday… at 3 am. An overdosed, drug induced man attempted to breakdown my front door. He was getting ready to throw his weight against the door for a second time when I pressed my emergency button and Life Alert came on. Home invasion did not occur because the individual could hear my communications and he stopped short of hitting the front door again. While I am talking to Life Alert, 3 police officers arrived at my address, and based on my description to Life Alert, the police officer came to my door to say that they had found the perpetrator. I am elderly, and live alone, therefore wearing my alert button pendant and having the squakbox on the window sill has brought me much needed assistance in an emergency and much comfort. Thank you Life Alert. F.P., Santa Fe, NM

Even when we’re NOT ALONE, Life Alert saves me and my husband!

[My husband] was in our backyard and looking out the kitchen window so I could see he was alright. Then I heard a voice from the [Life Alert] box. They asked if we had an emergency, and I said no, we’re both ok, he’s in the yard. I was told to go check on him and I did! Thank God for the Life Alert! He had fallen and broken his hip and could not get up. We’re so glad we had Life Alert. We will pass the word around to never be without Life Alert. W.S.., Poteau, OK
